I'm Pregnant!
Elisabeth Lesuer said, “It is a difficult task, a heroic effort, to bring forth the thought that is in us, but we must do it, breaking our souls as we might break a sacred vase so that others may breathe the divine perfume.”
I am laboring to bring forth some thought...not just a thought, though...because as Esther Joy Brown can attest, some thoughts are like babies and we labor to give birth. They are complex and growing, and they seem to come from a source that really cares whether or not we carry the thought to term.
So it is important to take care of what we allow into our minds and bodies during this mysterious process....(I hate to call it a process.) But we can't expose ourselves to toxic influences or our baby will suffer.
Of course, not all thoughts are like babies. Some are just frivolous and worldly and they never flesh out. Those are not the thoughts I am talking about.
It's those that are a struggle, those we wrestle with just as Jacob wrestled with God. And it is usually not a fun wrestling match, but one that causes a little (or a lot) of pain. It can take our breath away.
We struggle. We labor.
And then, a thought suddenly occurs and a previously dark part of us is illuminated; we see a clear path ahead and also have insight into the past. Most importantly, we see, by virtue of our epiphany, the absolute, mind blowing beauty of the present moment.
So what happens now that the idea is born? What happens after the initial euphoria?
Well, I believe that like all babies, it changes our entire world.
Oh God, please let this new baby be born healthy and strong and help me bring it to maturity for the good of more than just myself.
What should this baby's name be? Should I call her Serenity?
